Astar Music
* Journey through Music *
‘Astar’ does not mean stars.
It’s a Scottish Gaelic term describing
‘distance between one and others’.
It also contains the meaning of a journey.
At Astar Music Therapy Scotland, we see
music therapy as a shared journey with you.
Through person-centred music therapy sessions,
we strive to be the companion you need for your journey,
and offer opportunities for you to move towards your goals.
We provide professional and person-centred music therapy services for organisations and private individuals.
Music Therapy
- Music therapy is an established psychological clinical intervention, delivered by HCPC registered Music Therapists.
- It is centred on the therapeutic relationship that established and developed between the therapist and the client.
- It is for people of all ages and needs or for those who want to use music and sound as a creative means to reach their individualised goals or aims.

- Our Music Therapy Tree illustrates clearly the different types of music therapy sessions, the core elements of the therapy sessions we offer, and activities that participants and therapists may do in a session.

Testimonials
We couldn’t recommend Esther and Astar Music Therapy more.
Our father began music therapy following a brain injury and had very limited communication skills. Esther helped him on his journey to learn to speak to us again. When he moved away from the area Esther helped facilitate continuing his sessions remotely in his new care setting.
We really appreciate how considerate and kind she has always been with Dad, offering new ideas and solutions to improve his speech.
This is a truly wonderful service.
– Joan (Daughter of An Older Adult with Brain Injuries)
“I would highly recommend Esther if you are struggling with any mental health issues. Esther is welcoming, friendly, approachable and professional. The sessions are reasonably priced too and worth the investment to have better understanding in yourself.”
– Flora (Adult with mental health needs)
“I have been having music therapy with Esther for more than a year now. Finding the right therapist was always very important to me as the thought of getting therapy was daunting, so I was so happy to find Esther. Music has always been a place where I can fully be myself and express myself so it’s been great to explore this in a therapeutic setting. Esther is a caring and deeply compassionate listener and I have learnt so much about myself from her sessions I always come away with a new perspective and a feeling of calm and confidence. I highly recommend her to anyone considering music therapy.”
– Alex (Adult)
Esther is a model professional, caring and understanding young woman. She puts a lot of thought into the needs of her client and give the best way tailor the sessions to fit the individual’s condition in a relaxed and enjoyable way. Top notch all round.
– Mary (Spouse of the Client)
“I took a long time choosing a suitable voice therapist, as I had quite complex requirements including health, age, and emotional baggage effecting my voice.
I finally chose Esther for her enthusiasm, skill in adjusting to my requirements and considerable insight. She has an admirable ability to mould her knowledge to my needs and has helped me greatly with my breathing through our online sessions. I can highly recommend Esther.”
– Bea (adult with long-Covid)
“My son was born at 26 week gestation. He had a very stormy neonatal journey which included many months of ventilation and all the association complications. As a result, he has significant learning difficulties and communication problems. He was diagnosed with Autism at 15 but does not present with many of the known traits. He is a very happy, friendly and communicative young man, although he tends to invade people’s space and is unaware of social cues.
Esther has been working with him for over a year and I am very happy and indeed impressed with her approach. She has built up a really good relationship with my son, especially as most of their sessions have been over Zoom. My son thoroughly enjoys his music therapy and seems to relish the time he gets with Esther to express himself through music. I would highly recommend Music Therapy with Esther!
– Vivian (Parent of a young adolescent with additional needs)
“I like working with Esther, I have good fun and enjoy singing and making music! Thank you Esther.”
– Max (Child with additional needs)
When Eric first began his therapy sessions, he was tearful and withdrawn. Over the 2 years of engagement he has relaxed, enjoyed his sessions and begun to make decisions based on what he wants rather than being compliant and agreeing with others – I would characterise it as “speaking his mind” and being more responsive to his own needs rather than needing to please
– Jane (Family member of a young adolescent)
I highly reccomend Esther and her music. She was so uplifting in everyway and is more than 100% good with the elderly. Everyone in the care home looked forward to her being there every week. I joined every week to when visiting my mum and it helped me in so many ways.
– Katie (Daughter of an elderly lady lived with dementia)
